Survivors Stories is an independent documentary featuring stories from Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Rita, 2005.
What is it really like to be homeless, hungry, hot and sweaty, nearly broke, or shivering and alone? While many of us have seen it on TV, what would it take for someone to leave his home and drive across the country to experience it first hand?
Every State in the US has at least one possible natural disaster just waiting to happen, be it wild fires, flooding, earthquakes, etc. When you watch this documentary, stop for a moment and wonder what you would do, how will you react, when you know you have 12 hours to evacuate? Is your car ready to drive 12 hours? Do you have enough cash to buy the gas you'll need to get to safety? How are your tires? What about that battery? Have you packed your "Ready Bag" with 3 days worth of clothes and some survival food and water? Why not?
On 26 September 2005, Carlin Comm left Wenatchee, WA, driving cross-country, to make an independent video documentary of the survivors of Hurricane Katrina and Rita. Rather than being funded by corporate sponsorship or other media organization, his mission was largely self funded, and supported by friends, neighbors, and family.
In all, I was away from home for 40 days, drove 6502 Miles, was in 19 States, burned 358 Gallons of Gas, and had 1 Bad Tire!
For me, this documentary was never about trying to make money. My hope has always been that by watching these stories, the viewer might be more prepared them selves, and also more willing to help his neighbor in the time of need. Thank You! Carlin Comm.
