The Films of Trina Lopez features two award-winning works by this independent San Francisco filmmaker.
The documentary, A Second Final Rest: The History of San Francisco’s Lost Cemeteries, exhumes the little-known story of how this modern metropolis systematically relocated nearly all of its burial grounds in the early 1900s to make room for the living. It reveals an astonishing chapter in the history of the American West in which those who settled the City by the Bay were unceremoniously sent packing long after they had passed from this world to the next. (46 minutes)
La Llorona (“The Weeping Woman”) delves into the Mexican tale of the same name, and investigates how myth possesses the power to frighten, protect, and provide guidance to those who share in its transmission. In revealing the anguish, condemnation, and reconciliation La Llorona embodies, the film cites the importance this everchanging narrative possesses to all who learn of it and convey it. (17 minutes)
