Synopsis

Cuba is once again on the front pages of newspapers, magazines and all over the media, demonstrating the strong interest in Cuba that exists around the world. With Cuba in a period of transition, Lejos de la Isla: A Cuban-American Documentary examines the drama of Cuban diaspora over the past half century. Originally entitled EXILE, there are various differences that separate Lejos de la Isla from other documentaries on this turbulent topic.

Lejos de la Isla presents different points of view from renowned Cuban Scholars, Artists, Authors, and various people from the Cuban Exilic Community across the country. Lejos de la Isla captures and visually demonstrates my 26 years of immersion in Cuban Culture, community, and recently solidarity. It also presents a perspective from a new generation of Cuban-American voices and experiences.

Lejos de la Isla was not made to divide any one particular group. It was made to place an emphasis on family, community, pride, passion, and above all love. Lejos de la Isla re-introduces people in the world young and old to the Cuban Exilic Community across this country.
