Synopsis

"The Passion" is a dramatic live art presentation drawn on a light table in sand, to the soundtrack of the motion picture “The Passion of the Christ”. A moving fluid art presentation created scene by scene as the artist draws with his hands, and coreographed to the powerful music of John Debney. It is a compelling and dynamic new artform.

The artist, Joe Castillo, was born in cosmopolitan Mexico City and strongly influenced by the international art community. His mother taught painting. His father owned a graphic design and display company.
After his father’s death in 1963, the Castillo family moved back to the US. Joe finished high school, studied at the Ringling School of Art in Sarasota and enrolled at Florida Bible College. His efforts burgeoned into a successful Knoxville, Tennessee advertising agency.
After twenty-one years in the advertising business he sold his ad agency and enrolled at Asbury Seminary. His profound love of teaching the scriptures inspired him to illustrate what he was learning in a new way. These "SandStory" presentations are attempts to present the Bible in an intricate story-form that grows out of the Biblical passages.
