Synopsis

Over nine months, Mischa Hedges and Digital Sense Productions traveled the west coast to learn more about our food system. During production, he found that the standard methods of producing food do not take environmental or human health costs into consideration. He also explored the many alternatives to the current agricultural system.

Digital Sense worked with individuals representing The Sierra Club, P.E.T.A., The University of California at Davis, Organic Valley Dairy Farms, Chapman University and many others while producing this film.

The result is a documentary that takes an unadulterated look into the food you eat.

Director: Mischa Hedges | bio
Producer, director, and editor, Mischa Hedges has long known the impact a single person has on his environment. Growing up in rural Mendocino, California, he learned the importance of working hard and making a difference. In his teens, Mischa produced and edited “Big River: a resource worth protecting,” a film used in the fundraising efforts to purchase over 7,000 acres of forestland that was scheduled to be clearcut.

During Mischa’s first 3 years in college, his interest in documentary film led him to join several documentary crews. He was a director of photography and an editor on a concert film documentary following reggae artist “Eek-A-Mouse” on tour throughout the western United States. His next experience was in a crew of three, shooting and editing “Way Ahead of Their Time,” a thirty-minute documentary about drug abuse among teens. They interviewed current and recovering drug addicts, young and old, as well as experts on substance abuse.

In his final year at Chapman University Mischa produced, directed and edited Sustainable Table: what’s on your plate?, an award-winning feature documentary about America’s agricultural industry and food system. Sustainable Table has screened at over 18 film festivals nationwide, and had a wide following in the form of grassroots screenings, magazine reviews and presentations.

In the fall of 2007 Mischa was commissioned to direct a film for the fourth Elevate Film Festival, called “Legacy of Love,” which documents a terminal cancer patient’s preparations for the end of his life. “Legacy of Love” screened at the Kodak Theater in Hollywood in front of an audience of 3,000.

He is currently in pre-production for a new feature documentary about public transportation.
