Each year, the hunter ring welcomes a record number of new participants. Also on a steady rise is the financial investment required to compete. The result is always-higher expectations and always-stiffer competition. Every rider, owner and trainer wants an edge.

In the ring on the day of the competition, when it is the score that counts, the question is often, “Why did the horse and rider rate a 58?” To the trainer or parent, it certainly was at least a 90.
