Synopsis

"Toys Are Us: A Revolution In Plastic" is the first ever documentary on the creative, sophisticated, and often challenging world of designer vinyl toys, where artists create their own weird and wonderful figures for a booming, adult collector's market. The film is a high-energy, fast-paced celebration of new forms of artistic expression, DIY culture, and of course, toys!

Produced by X-Ray Films, "Toys Are Us" was filmed on location at the creators' and collectors' studios and homes, various toy stores on both sides of the country, and Comic Con International 2006. Exploring the scene through the eyes of the designers and fans themselves, the documentary features interviews with such luminary artists as Frank Kozik, Patrick Ma (Rocketworld, IWG), Tara McPherson, Kano (Moneygrip), Erick Scarecrow (ESC Toy, Liberty), Mark Nagata (Max Toy Co., Captain Maxx), Brian Flynn (Super 7), Mars-1, Jermaine Rogers, J Neth and more, as well as collectors and fans.

Toys Are Us also features a ridiculously loud soundtrack by such punk and under-ground bands as Mindless Self Indulgence, Longway, Brian McCarty, Stick Shift, and I, Synthesist.

The new DIRECTOR'S CUT of the film includes a longer cut of the film with even more great interviews and toys. It also features a host of new extras, including:

• TWO micro-featurette documentaries: "Toy Making 101" and a "An Ancient History of Vinyl Toys," which focuses on the history of Japanese vinyl toys, and their influence on vinyl toys today!

• Additional interview footage with Mars-1, Patrick Ma, Brian Flynn, and Frank Kozik--who takes viewers on a tour of his personal toy collection!

Toys Are Us: A Revolution In Plastic is an official selection of the 2007 E.Vil. City Film Fest (October 3-8, NYC, NY; www.evilcityfilmfest.com).
