Synopsis

Cambodia is located between Thailand and Vietnam in southeast Asia. It is the successor state of the mighty Khmer Empire that ruled southeast Asia over 1000 years ago. The Khmer Empire built the temples of Angkor Wat, which today are one of the greatest historical sites in the world.

Present day Cambodia has seen more violence, bloodshed poverty and famine then any other country. It has been ravaged from non-stop violence by the French, the Vietnamese, the Americans, and by its own people- the Khmer Rouge. Until as late as 1998, Cambodia was one of the most dangerous countries in the world.

Today most of the violence has ended and the country is relatively safe to travel. Cambodia still retains its French colonial charm, beautiful countryside, beautiful countryside and hospitable locals.

The following is one travelers first hand perspective of this wonderful and tragic country.
