• Lead: Rufus Harley | bio

  Rufus Harley, the worlds first jazz bagpipe player.
  Harley was born in North Carolina and raised in Philadelphia since the age of 3 until his untimely death in 2006.
  At the age of 22, he began studying saxophone, flute, oboe, and clarinet with Dennis Sandole (1913-2000), an Italian American jazz guitarist who also taught several other Philadelphia jazz musicians including John Coltrane.
  Harley released four L.P.'s on Atlantic Records in the later part of the 1960's that were produced by Grammy award producer, Joel Dorn. Rufus would often hand out miniatures of the Liberty Bell and copies of the Constitution while touring abroad to dignitaries as the self proclaimed ambassador of freedom.
  A posthumous retrospective on Rhino Handmade, Courage - The Atlantic Recordings, was released in November of 2006 as a 3,000 copy limited edition, and contains all the tracks from his four Atlantic LPs, plus an unreleased track of Pete Seeger's composition Where Have All the Flowers Gone?.

  George is a independent producer, songwriter and musician from Philadelphia who has received an Emmy nomination for his song & production in 1995 and in 1996 was awarded an Emmy for assisting in the production of the Prism TV show, Prism Music Magazine .
  After a car accident left him with a disability, George decided to begin his healing process by interviewing musicians that he knew over the years in Philly, and started the documentary, "City of Brotherly Love, a musical journey" in 2002 (still in production).
