Synopsis

Filmed on the "backside" slopes of little-known, beautiful Discovery Basin ski area--this is some of the steepest lift-assisted ski terrain in North America. Discovery Basin is one of the magnificent Southwestern Montana ski gems and the local ski area for the historic towns of Anaconda, Butte, and Philipsburg. Discovery's easy-going atmosphere, picturesque views and challenging "backside" draws skiers, boarders, and telemakers from all over Southwestern Montana.

Much of the camera work was done using a helmet camera, often hand-held, to attain the many exciting shots and perspectives of this fast-paced, exciting film.

Just the local skiers, boarders, telemarkers. Ages range from young children to men and women in their 70's. One thing they have in common is their love of the "backside."

Crew

Director: Dan Counter | bio
Dan Counter has close to 25 year's experience as a film maker and over 40 year's experience as a skier.

Dan's work includes documentaries of his native Butte, Montana. He has won awards for his commercial work. Dan has also lived and worked on dinosaur digs for over 15 years--documenting eight T-Rex digs which includes some of the finest specimens discovered to date. Dan was on-hand at the Black Hills Institute in South Dakota when the T-Rex "Sue" was confiscated by the Federal Government--his experience led to his video production of this highly controversial affair.

Dan currently lives and works in Anaconda, Montana--specifically to ski Discovery Basin's backside.

Ann Baranowski lives in Anaconda and works in Butte, Montana. She makes sure the crew gets fed and worries about money. She loves two things a lot: Movies and Skiing. This is her first film and her third season skiing.
