In 2007, Nhojj's brand of elegant smooth Soul/Funk/Reggae/Jazz mix earned the #1 position on the Myspace Neo-Soul, Fusion, Nu-Jazz, Healing, Gospel and Easy listening Indie Artist NY Charts, where he stayed for a total of 25 weeks. Logo Magazine describes his voice as "Honeyed, Subdued and unadorned combination of Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye," while the Windy City Times says "Acoustic Soul Music with a Message."
Nhojj started singing as a child in Guyana; where he performed in churches, on radio programs and eventually for the president. At 18, he moved to New York City where he, after graduating from NYU with a B.A. in Economics, returned to his true calling - music.
His '01 debut, "I've Been Waiting for You," prompted Chris Van Loan - Music Dish to suggest "Blessed with Musical Genius" and was featured at the 2002 International Fringe Festival in the Jacob A. Weiser Playwriting Award Winning play “The Making of the Black Man.”
His '03 sophomore, "Someday Peace, Love and Freedom" won the Best Male Performance at the Fresh Fruit Festival, garnered the Best Male Recording Nomination at the '04 OutMusic Awards, and 2 songs “Free” and “I Miss U” received honorable mention at the 14th Annual Billboard Songwriting Contest.
In '05, he revisited to his gospel roots recording "John Martinborough Coming Home" with Producer Sam Archer (Barbershop Soundtrack and B2K), and traveling to 26 cities throughout England, USA, Canada and parts of the Caribbean on a 8 month World Tour. That year Nhojj also had the opportunity to perform at the Lincoln Center - Avery Fischer Hall with the Altino Concert Choral.
To date Nhojj has given free concerts to support the causes near to his heart - HIV/AIDS, Drug Addiction, Disability Awareness, Domestic Violence, Earth Day celebrations, and Peace.
In ‘08 Nhojj returned with his 4th Studio CD - “Soul Comfort” which features musicians Carl Evans (Stevie Wonder, Barry White), David Stark (Rick James, Teena Marie), Tommy Aros (Luis Miguel). “An Intimate Evening with Nhojj” captures an unplugged acoustic performance of Nhojj with Jazz guitarist Marcelo Cardozo. Filmed by Emmy-Nominated director Bill Cote.
