• Tenor Saxophone: Stuart Bogie | bio

  Stuart Bogie was born in Evanston, IL. The younger of two boys in a warm and loving home. He studied music at the Interlochen Arts Academy and the University of Michigan, focusing on clarinet and bass clarinet. He co-founded the group Transmission with Zachary Mastoon (aka Caural) in 1991. With the group Antibalas, he has functioned as conductor, saxophonist, and composer, touring over 15 countries and performing in major festivals around the world. He has been the recipient of a Meet the Composers grant, and has written, produced and performed music for film, dance, television, and toys. He is a full time member of the children's group The FunkeyMonkeys (with a long run at the Daryl Roth theater in Union Square), The Sway Machinery, and leads the group Volney Litmus in addition to various solo performances.

  He has shared stage and/or studio with the Wu Tang Clan, Medeski Martin and Wood, TV on the Radio, Celebration, Zak De La Rocca, Massive Attack, Burning Spear, Sinead O'Conner, Gomez, Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings, The El Michaels Affair, Baaba Maal, Tony Williams, Bat for Lashes, DJ Logic, Brian Jackson, Angelique Kidjo, and choreographer Bill T. Jones.

  He now lives in Brooklyn and enjoys studying music and improvised theater, camping and watching the Muppets.

• Trumpet: Jordan McLean | bio

  Charter member, lead trumpet, featured soloist and contributing composer, Antibalas Afrobeat Orchestra; founding memeber, Fire of Space, Piano Music and Song Trio, DROID and East Coast Duo; featured solo and ensemble work with Bill T. Jones, Angelique Kidjo, Medeski Martin and Wood, TV on the Radio, Gomez, Cyro Baptista, Butch Morris, The Sway Machinery, Blue Note and ANTI Records and countless other NYC based and international musical personalities. This work includes trips to 20 countries and 40 U.S. states for dozens of major jazz, rock, world music, and cultural festivals over the last decade.

• Bass Saxophone: Colin Stetson | bio

  Woodwind player Colin Stetson can play powerfully while circularly breathing for long periods, can draw multiphonics out of a sax with great skill, and can command an audience's attention with his focus and melodic improvisations.

  Stetson is performing regularly with the Antibalas Afrobeat Orchestra, Jeremiah Lockwood's Sway Machinery, Zemog El Gallo Bueno, and the ever present Transmission as well as performances with Sinead O'Connor, Burning Spear and Medeski, Martin, and Wood and Anthony Braxton. • Percussion: Tomer Tzur | bio

  Tomer Tzur- (Mid-Eastern Percussion, Drum-set) Tomer's up bringing in Israel has been the essential ingredient in shaping his musical style. A powerhouse drumming and a soft percussion touch that combines east and west. He moved to NYC in 1993 to study composition and performance. In 1999 He received a BA from the New School Jazz and Contemporary Music Program. The vibrant music scene in New York exposed Tomer to Brazilian and Afro-Cuban music, which he played in 2000, with the all percussion ensemble 'Beat the Donkey' lead by the premier percussionist Cyro Baptista. Naturally Tomer adapted his native Mid Eastern percussion, the darbuka and tof-miriam (Riq). Tomer performed internationally and recorded with artists such as Pharaoh's Daughter, Amos Hoffman, Harel Shachal's Anistar, Mesaouda Ensemble, Shira Kline, Avishai Cohen (bassist), Storahtelling, Daniel Freedman, Aleppo Congregation Brooklyn, Sambanditos, East of the River ensemble. He was for several years a resident musician at Congregation B'nai Jeshurun. Tomer composes Music for animation and theatre, and gives workshops on Mid Eastern percussion.

• Drums: Brian Chase | bio

  Brian Chase is a drummer and composer living in Brooklyn, NY. Growing up on Long Island, he started taking private drum lessons when he was five which lead to earning a Bachelors of Music from the Oberlin Conservatory in Ohio when he was 22. Brian is probably best know for his work with the rock band Yeah Yeah Yeahs, a band that has toured extensively throughout the world and has been nominated for two Grammys. Other recorded projects include the Seconds, a minimalist punk rock band that has two albums out on the 5rc label, and a duo ensemble with saxophonist Seth Misterka that has a record out on the Heathen Skulls label. Recent collaborations on the Brooklyn improvised/experimental/new music scene have included Matt Welch, Jessica Pavone, and Mary Halvorson. Brian is also heavily influenced by the work of legendary composer La Monte Young and is discovering new ways of applying the Just Intonation tuning theory to drums and percussion. Former and influential teachers have included Susie Ibarra, Greg Bandy, Michael Rosen, John Miceli, Joe Morello, Suphala (a student of Zakir Hussein and Brian's tabla teacher), and guitarist/composer Jon Catler, with whom Brian studied Just Intonation composition. Away from the drums, Brian practices Ashtanga yoga and enjoys eating his way through Brooklyn and Queens.

• Director of Photography: Tatiana McCabe | bio

  Having grown up overseas in a colorful array of countries and cultures (Venezuela, Taiwan, Thailand, Mexico, Hong Kong), Tatiana developed a passion for documentary photography at a young age. After 18 years of travel, she chose to focus her interests in cameras and media arts at Emerson College in Boston where she received a BA in Film and Photography in 2006. Throughout her four years at Emerson she also participated as a DJ on the country's top college radio station 88.9 WERS where she spun World Music and developed her love for music videos and documentaries. Upon graduating she moved to New York City where she became immersed in a world of music and opportunities to document live performances; everything from shooting to designing and authorizing DVD packages of the events. Throughout her two years in New York she has also worked for Frontline of PBS, SculptureCenter (a not-for-profit arts institution) and has worked extensively as a freelancing photographer and videographer for weddings, live performance events and portraiture. Most recently she is pursuing further studies in editing, motion graphics and graphic design at the School of Visual Arts and is in production on two music documentaries. She currently resides in Brooklyn and in her free time enjoys a good game of tennis!

• Composer: Jeremiah Lockwood | bio

  Son of composer Larry Lockwood and the grandson of the legendary Cantor Jacob Konigsberg, Jeremiah Lockwood began his musical career playing on the streets of Manhattan. He soon struck up a relationship with Piedmont Blues master Carolina Slim, with whom he still performs. Jeremiah and Carolina Slim have appeared together in Avery Fisher Hall, the New School Blues Festival, and have been profiled in The New York Times Magazine and TimeOut NY. Jeremiah has worked for years as the front man for The Sway Machinery, a blues/world beat/Chazzanus ensemble that is currently revamping its sound and taking New York by storm with the help of friends from the Antibalas horn section. Recently, Jeremiah has been working as a composer for film and theater, scoring the Adam Vardi film Mendy, and a documentary piece on Israeli artist Miriam Cabessa that was featured as an installation at the Tel Aviv Modern Art Museum. In the past years, Jeremiah has also been appearing with J-Dub recording artists Balkan Beat Box. Jeremiah’s blues-oriented solo album, American Primitive, was released by Vee-Ron Records/Red Eye Distribution in April 2006. Jeremiah Lockwood lives in Brooklyn, NY with his wife Shasta and their son Moses Lion.
