Synopsis

The Plague has come to the small village of Bezirksstadt.

Fathers and Mothers, sons and daughters, all fall to the sharp sickle of Death. Manfred, the Chair of the Medical College, and his fellow Physicians are baffled at finding any way to combat the disease and save their fellow people.

Janick, a young doctor whose radical medical theories about life and death have made him a near-pariah at the college, tries to bring hope in the form of an electrical device capable of re-animating dead tissue. He is decried a heretic, his methods and tools are labeled blasphemous, and he is cast out. But the Plague causes not only sickness, but desperation, and Janick is attacked and his face burned with acid by a thief.

Retreating from the eyes of Men, Janick finds sanctuary in the crumbling remains of an abandoned building deep in the forest. Meanwhile the Plague claims another victim: Esmeralda, Manfred’s only daughter and the love of the mangled Janick.

Janick, his deformed face hidden behind an angelic porcelain mask, dedicates himself to finishing what he began, to defeat the sickness around him. Finding his one and only love has become another of the Plague’s casualties; he exhumes her and brings her lifeless body back to his sanctum. There he begins the process to bring Esmeralda back to life.

Encouraged by his initial success, Janick is nevertheless stymied as he realizes that the resurrected Esmeralda is little more than a shell of her former self. She has forgotten nearly everything about her own past, and needs to be re-taught the most basic of physical tasks: to eat, to walk, and even to love. Driven by his affection, he sets about the painstaking task of rehabilitating her.

But the more self-awareness Esmeralda gains, the more curious she becomes; curious of her new surroundings, and curious about the identity of her new masked companion. As the relationship between the two outcasts begins to re-kindle, familiar feelings stir in Esmeralda’s resuscitated heart, bringing the two hapless lovers to a final, fateful conclusion.

Actress: Cate Boleyn | bio
Cate Boleyn began her association with Mad Monkey Productions as a body double for Kelly Lynn, but her responsibilities soon grew to encompass duties both behind and in front of the camera. She now holds an Associate Producer title at Mad Monkey HQ. She played the character of Ramona in their 2005 short One Nail too Many, and is set to star in their 2007 sophomore endeavor Pandemic.
Actress: Kelly Lynn | bio
Kelly Lynn (Esmeralda) has always been and continues to be something of an enigma. The Ohio-based Lynn was cast mainly on the basis of her strikingly slender physical build, plus her willingness to perform many of the scenes nude except for a layer of cadaver-like white makeup, in the film locations’ gruesome conditions. Sadly, Ms. Lynn vanished mid production and was never heard from again.
Actor: Josh Ebel | bio
Josh Ebel (Janick) is the lead singer for Pittsburgh’s premiere grindcore band Serious Grind. He wishes he was small enough to sleep in a bass drum.

Director: Mike McKown | bio
Mike McKown is the co-director and co-producer of all three Mad Monkey Pictures to date, and also brings his considerable technical knowledge and experience to MMP as Director of Photography and Editor. He is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh as well as the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. He has worked on several Pittsburgh productions since graduation, both independent and studio funded. Over the years he collaborated with Jim on several film projects before producing The Sleep of Reason (2003), a five-minute short that was the genesis of Mad Monkey Productions and which cemented the artistic direction for Prometheus: to utilize the latest in digital video, non-linear editing, and digital post-production technology in order produce motion pictures that re-create a period of film history long gone. Mike lives in the South Hills with his family and his dog Kenobi.
Director: Jim Towns | bio
Jim Towns is the co-director, co-producer and writer of Prometheus Triumphant. His other duties include designing many of the props and costumes, storyboards, and playing the role of the Creator for much of the shoot. A Pittsburgh native, Towns graduated from the Savannah College of Art & Design in 1996, worked in theatre in Philadelphia, did illustration in New York before returning to Pittsburgh. There he turned his attention to painting and showing in fine art galleries in the area such as Penn Gallery and Blue Ruin Gallery. During this time he and Mike, friends for almost two decades, began to see the new possibilities digital video afforded filmmakers. Towns currently lives in Los Angeles, where he writes for independent film and is busily working on the pre-production for Mad Monkey Production’s next feature, a Pittsburgh-based zombie film called Pandemic.
Composer: Lucien Desar | bio
Lucien Désar (composer) is a Romantic – a musical poet for the modern age. Unrestricted by a conformist attitude to pop conventions and standards, this 34 year-old composer and multi-instrumentalist explores the mystical and mysterious through his moody compositions.

A childhood fear of anything Désar considered "haunting" – including ghosts, vampires, graveyards, and death itself –has developed into his personal obsession, one that became fostered by the goth revival that blossomed in the American music underground during the late Nineties. Fueled by diverse cultural inspirations – the music of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Graeme Revell, and Peter Murphy; the photography of ManRay; the artwork of Edward Gorey; the films of Tim Burton; the literature of Shakespeare, Keats, and Poe – and also influenced by Celtic, renaissance, jazz, Caribbean, German, Italian, and African musical styles and rhythms – Désar reveals his dark passions in the gothic rock and neo-classical styles prevalent in his work.
