Synopsis

On January 14th, 2007 composer Cody Westheimer lost his father, Dr. Eric Westheimer to a brain tumor. Faced with the biggest challenge of his life, Cody discovered running as a way to cope with the death of his best friend.

Inspired by working on “ULTRA MARATHON MAN,” a film about folk hero Dean Karnazes, Cody decided to begin training to run a marathon. Houston was where his dad was born. The race was taking place on January 13th, 2008 - the eve of the anniversary of his father’s death. The choice was obvious-the Houston Marathon would be the race Cody would enter to honor his dad.

Follow Cody and his family as he travels through grief, pain and perseverance in his quest to run 26.2 miles.

Film composer Cody Westheimer never thought he would be running. He also never though he would be making a film about his running! With hundreds of film credits as a composer, RUNNING FOR MY FATHER marks his second filmmaking experience as a director. WAVES an elegy (wavesthemovie.com) the so-called “prequal” to this film, was screened at five festivals in 07-08 and was awarded a Platinum Remi at the Houston Worldfest for best music in a shortfilm. Fueled by his passion for storytelling, and his love and admiration for his father, the completion of RUNNING FOR MY FATHER marks a milestone in Cody’s grief. Producer: Karen Westheimer | bio
Karen Westheimer, Cody’s mother, has produced both of Cody’s films. An artist, Karen is experienced in nearly every form of art imaginable - from children’s books to stained glass. Her work has shown in galleries from Los Angeles to San Francisco. She has also edited two shorts, “Simply Cat” and “This Is Your Life, May Saxe.” Currently she is illustrating a children’s book for the Santa Barbara Zoo. She resides in Goleta, just north of Santa Barbara and spends many weekends in Los Angeles with her son and his wife, Julia.

Julia, who is married to Cody, is also a film composer. In addition to her long list of credentials, she has worked extensively with acclaimed film composer James Newton Howard and is currently working on the TV show BONES with composer Sean Callery. A pianist and vocalist, her artistic flair is unmatched. Julia’s hobbies include gardening, goofing off and taking runs with her husband.
Producer: Billy Yang | bio
A Los Angeles native, Billy Yang is an ex-smoker turned runner whose passion for all things outdoors knows no bounds. When he is not managing the family retail wine business, he can be found running on the many trails of the Santa Monica mountains or flying down the PCH on his beloved Triumph motorcycle. Billy and Cody bonded through running marathons in their fathers' memories.
