Synopsis

THIS PALESTINIAN LIFE is a documentary film about nonviolent struggle in the face of Israeli occupation and the ongoing, illegal annexation of Palestinian land.

An Arabic term used for everyday acts of nonviolent resistance is “sumoud,” which means steadfastness and perseverance.

In the film, Egyptian-German activist and director
Philip Rizk interweaves stories of Palestinian villagers as they carry out “sumoud” in the face of settler violence and the injustice of the Israeli government.

When this conflict makes the news, it is often Palestinian violence that gets the most airtime. Much less frequently covered is the daily, systematic violence of the Israeli state.

The film does not attempt to provide an overview of the entire conflict. Instead, using an oral history approach, THIS PALESTINIAN LIFE documents the stories of Palestinian farmers who struggle to maintain their way of life and very existence, in the villages of Hebron, the Jordan Valley, and the Gaza Strip.

These communities continue to find peaceful, creative, and bold ways to remain on their land: today, tomorrow and for as long as it takes…
