Synopsis

In 1959 the fate of Portland's hockey team was in doubt. With only a handful of players returning, an uncompleted arena, and the press denouncing the team as the worst team ever fielded in the league all they could do was skate. Kings of the Road tells the story of that team, The Portland Buckaroos, and their eventual rise as champions and division leaders year after year from 1960-1974. This film was used to celebrate a Buckaroos Reunion held at the Memorial Coliseum in Portland and projected between the periods of the hockey game held that night. 9500 people attended making it a hit! This limited version of the film will not be reprinted, but a new version of the film will be available soon and will run 96 minute with bonus extras.

Dan Schaefer has contributed his skills as a concept artist to film and television productions for more than 20 years. He credits his involvement with comics’ projects at Marvel, DC, Dark Horse, and Image Comics from 1986-2001 as part of his development for the multi-layered world of feature films. His list of projects varies from animation (Teen-Age Mutant Turtles television series), advertising campaigns (BMW, Adidas, Nike, Intel, HP, Clorox, Airwick) and feature films (for NBC/Universal, MGM, Lions Gate, Paramount). His diverse skill set has led him into art direction (Valley of Light for Hallmark) and producing (associate producer on the film Deep Winter starring Michael Madsen). He has worked as a pre-visualization artist with Gus Van Sant (Paranoid Park, To Each His Own Cinema), Guillermo Arriga (The Burning Plain) and recently with Ellory Elkayam (Without a Paddle 2) as both pre-visualization and additional writer.
Filmbyframe is a production company started in 2007 by Dan Schaefer to produce the Trailblazer documentary called Mania. The film was released in November 2008 and was selected for inclusion of the NW Film Festival. Filmbyframe latest production is Kings of the Road: The Story of the Portland Buckaroos following the earlier championships of Harry Glickman’s first professional team. Filmbyframe is in post-production on the film Figaro that follows a group of singers from Kentucky to Poland to perform the opera Marriage of Figaro. Dan Schaefer was also an Associate Producer on the Sony film called Deep Winter released in 2009.
