After nine different bridge and tunnel proposals since the early 1920s, the buildling boom of the 1960s helped bring the dream of spanning the San Diego Bay to reality. The documentary explores these early attempts, the ensuing bridge debate, its construction and the 1969 inauguration, with rare archival footage.
Also included in the documentary is the creation of Chicano Park beneath the bridge landing, a glimpse into the bridge's intense maintenance program and reflections on the iconic monument today.
