POSE DOWN (86 mins, s16) is a dark, offbeat dramedy set in the 90’s in Southwest Florida revolving around three former high school classmates –THE BODYBUILDER, THE GOOD OL' BOY
and THE HOMECOMING QUEEN - whose lives become entangled after the airing of a tabloid news program.
POSE DOWN mines the ridiculous with the sublime in this personal tale about a woman’s unraveling life, and her attempt to “pose down” her past in order to look to a better future.
POSE DOWN deals with themes and issues shared by many women struggling for independence and searching for an identity. The film provocatively balances the funny and ironic with the sad and tragic. A thematic structure that can be found in writer/director ERIKA YEOMANS' other award winning short films and videos (Boo, Paging
Dr. Freud, Chubby Buddy, The Forgery, In Search of Bas Jan's Miraculous).
The soundtrack for POSE DOWN blends alt-rock indie artists of the 80's and 90's (Florida bands such as Beggar Weeds and Charlie Pickett) with alt-rock indie artists of today (Earl Greyhound, Smog, SixOrgans of Admittance and Corn Mo) to create a rocking tapestry of music that further underscores the film's thought-provoking imagery. POSE DOWN premiered at the prestigious Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival in 2007.
POSE DOWN was shot in 22 days on Super 16 mm in the spring of 2006. An ultra low budget production, POSE DOWN is Ms. Yeomans feature film directorial debut and was produced by AARON S. LEVINE. The project was awarded a pre-production grant from New York State Council on the Arts.
POSE DOWN was photographed by award-winning cinematographer BENJAMIN KASULKE (Humpday, Guy Maddin's Brand Upon the Brain, 2006 Slamdance Kodak Vision Award Winner) and edited by SANDRA MONTIEL (The Hills, The Martha Stewart Story, Punch Drunk Love).
The film features emerging young talent including ADAM NEE (Filmmaker Magazine's "25 to Watch 2006"), BRIAN SLATEN (Army Wives, Law & Order SUV), CHRIS STACK (Rodger Dodger, The School of Rock), COSMO PFEIL (Descent, Shotgun Stories), KRISTIN DISPALTRO (Transit, Margarita Happy Hour,The Hill) and RICH SOMMER (Mad Men, The Devil Wears Prada).
This film is one of my absolute favorites! Pose Down is original, intelligent, and witty. I've watched it numerous times and just laugh harder each time while discovering subtle nuances I hadn't caught before. It's hysterically funny in all its dark realism....We need more films like this one!!!!
