The world’s ecosystems are explored by the Wild Secrets team as they travel the globe - from the Darwin’s Galapagos Islands, to Siberia, to the Snares Islands of the Southern Ocean to the Mekong River Delta. See and explore these richly diverse natural habitats and the animals that they hide. This highly acclaimed wildlife documentary series reveals the struggle to survive not only against natural predators and harsh environments but also the encroaching presence of mankind.

This DVD includes four episodes from the Wild Secrets series:

Part One - Galapagos: Evolution at the Speed of Life
The effect of El Nino weather patterns on wildlife has been documented worldwide for years, but scientists are now uncovering some startling new facts. On the Galapagos Islands off the coast of South America, lack of food brought about by El Nino, has caused a colony of marine iguanas to physically shrink. In the increasingly difficult hunt for food, these unique iguanas are forced to venture ashore, and some are beginning to breed with their land-based cousins. Could this new hybrid be the beginning of an entirely new species?

Part Two - The Snares Islands: Cradle of the Southern Ocean
In the midst of the stormy Southern Ocean lies a group of craggy islands named the Snares. It’s one of the most unspoiled and protected places on earth. Although it is only about the size of New York’s Central Park, it is home to more than 5 million seabirds. Under a canopy of giant tree-daisies Snares Crested penguins, Buller’s albatross, and massive numbers of Sooty Shearwaters come to breed. We make a privileged visit to this cradle of the Southern Ocean.

Part Three - Mekong: River Reborn
During the Vietnam War the Mekong Delta became a wasteland when millions of liters of defoliants were poured onto its forests. Miraculously, in just forty years the green has returned - and the delta is once again a rich haven for wildlife. This thriving river is home to the world’s tallest flying bird. The world’s most unusual dolphin … and an elephant with a bizarre habit. We travel up river and discover some of the secrets of a river reborn.

Part Four - Siberian Summer
The freezing temperatures of the Siberian winter drive most animals away to seek shelter further south. But each spring the returning sun transforms the landscape. In the season of plenty and endless sunshine, plants and animals breed their next generation. But the summer is short, and each creature races to rear its young before the icy curtain of winter closes in once again. The Siberian summer is a hothouse of life at the top of the world.
