Synopsis

Who are the children who grew up during WWII under the Nazi occupation (1933-1945) of Europe? What were their experiences of the horrors of being Jewish during such times as these? And when it was all over, only 10 percent of the children survived this evil moment in world history. Hidden Children is a testament of these war crimes.

As executive producer and co-director, The Hidden Children, is very personal film for Deborah Thurlow, because she is an individual who has converted to Judiasm. Therefore, it is her mission to let the world know and never forget the monstrosities that humankind is capable of. Hidden Children is a testament of three survivors of the Holocaust, Carl Hausman, Goldy Hess and Evelyn Ripp. It is also very fortunate that they wrote and published books about their experience as children in this dark moment in history which was the informative source material for the documentary.

The three survivors, Carl Hausman, Evelyn Ripp and Goldy Hess live in New Jersey and they share their personal stories of their interrupted childhoods under the Nazis through their thoughts, songs and memories from the past to present.

There are also four children actors in the film Sherry Hausman, Elizabeth Nebens, Ezra and Yosef Nussbaum. So, Hidden Children also illustrates the difference between childhood and adulthood through outdoor scenes of both children and adults at play in contrasting scenes creating not only a documentary…but an artistic film of collages.

She has eight recordings to her credit, Angelic Waves - Part 1 (2000), Angelic Waves - Part 2 (2003) and It’s Not The Way – CD Single (2007), Enlightenment of Cell (2009) and Soundscape of the Soul (2009) are independent releases and I Am (2001), Patchworks (2004), The Darwin Effect (2008) [2009 Grammy Nomination Consideration] on the Capstone Records label. Patchworks and The Darwin Effect are recordings with her group Turn On The Music, an futuristic chamber ensemble with elements of process sounds and improvisation. The instrumentation of this group is horn, violin, electric guitar and electric bass which is sometimes expanded or reduced depending on the works presented to the group. Presently, she is the executive producer, co-director and composer of her first film, Hidden Children, a documentary about children who are survivors of the Holocaust.

In addition to being an educator, James is a producer/composer and owns a music production studio, JAMMAN Productions. He produces film scores, jingles, rap and pop music. He was featured in the Feb. 2003 issue of EQ Magazine, which is a popular pro audio and recording industry publication. Recent projects include an anti-drug and anti-violence rap album with rapper VBL. Two tracks won awards. "Hate Drugs" took the New Jersey Fights Back Against Drugs 1st place trophy and "Violence Nowhere" won a Def Jam Records-sponsored competition where teens rapped against violence. He recently released a Poetry and Music album, under the JAMMAN Productions Studio Label, with Juba, nephew of world famous poet and playwright Amiri Baraka.
