  Before T-Pain catapulted his solo career to where it’s at now, the rapper/singer was part of a group known as the Nappy Heads.

  While in Tallahassee, Florida, the group was able to gain success in the early 2000s and was widely known in the South.

  As is with most situations as a group, they decided to disband and pursue solo careers in order to bring more exposure nationally, which would benefit the whole when they were able to come back together.

  “None of the members [were meant to be seen] as THE star of the group, they were all stars of a group. They were participants of a group.”

  Like Nelly did with the St. Lunatics, 50 Cent with G-Unit and Eminem with D12, the major success of one artist was meant to act like an outlet to bring the team along and finish where they started.

  “It was a big family, all of us grew up together.”

  According to an upcoming documentary titled The Untold Story: Nappy Heads, T-Pain hasn’t come through with his part of the bargain. After signing with Akon and Konvict Muzik, Pain has gone on to release three albums, with the fourth album, Revolver, on the way, but there has been no word of bring back the old crew.

  “I’m just disappointed in the way he let the success get to him.”

  Members of the group stated that they noticed shady business going on with Pain as he started to pursue his own career and continued to lose focus on the group.

  “We come in the studio to do work as a group, but he didn’t wanna do nothing. The next day we come back in the studio, he got 2 and 3 songs by himself.”

  A source added that Pain used them when he came back home because he was aware of the fact that he wouldn’t get the reaction he wanted unless he had them alongside him at particular venues.

  “After almost 10 years of knowing each other just to say it’s all about me now.”

  Before shooting to stardom as a solo artist, T-Pain was a member of a group called the Nappy Headz.

  The remaining members of the group are calling Pain out now … for leaving them behind once he blew up, in a new documentary titled “The Untold Story: Nappy Headz.”

  The documentary, released on DVD, chronicles the Tallahassee, Florida group’s rise in the south, years before Pain signed with Akon’s Konvict label and became one of the biggest names in hip-hop.

  According to the film, the Nappy Headz devised a plan for each member to go solo in hopes of bringing more notoriety back to the group. But, when T-Pain’s profile began to rise, he didn’t followed the plan. They’ve remained silent over the years, and tell their story for the first time, via DVD.

  Since dropping his debut, Rappa Ternt Sanga in 2005, Pain has gone on to release a total of three solo albums, each producing monster singles that helped him rise to superstardom. Despite all his success, he’s never mentioned his former group.

  The way you did it. You didn’t tell us. You just started making songs. You ran off,” a member of the group says in the film’s trailer. “It had to be a Nappy Head for them to know T-Pain.”

  “I’m just disappointed in the way he let the success get to him,” another member added.

  The documentary features Florida legends like TJ Chapman (of TJ’s DJ’s), and Shaheed Najm (Pain’s estranged father and former Nappy Headz manager).

  Najm previously criticized his son for allegedly turning his back on his groupmates and family for Akon, whom he called a “bad muslim,” and “con artist.”

  T-Pain has yet to address the film, or its accusations.

  UT-OH! T-Pain's former Nappy Headz group members and childhood friends are accusing him of reneging on a pact the group once made and turning his back on them in a new documentary called The Untold Story: Nappy Headz. What I can't seem to figure out is how I'm just now hearing about this when I live in the same city as these dudes. Talk about continually being tardy to the damn party. But I digress. The documentary examines what the former group members consider the real story of the Tallahassee, Florida group, who gained some shine in the South, years before Pain branched out and began his solo rapping career. But we have to remember, there's two sides to every story...although I personally believe there's three (theirs, his and the truth). According to the doc, the group originally disbanded with the intention to gain exposure as solo artists, then loop in the rest of the group once one of them had secured a record deal. One member said, 'Soon as we made a pact, it's like, whoever the first person that make it dawg, we gon take the whole group. We'd go into the studio to work as a group, but he didn't want to do nothing. But the next day, we come back to the studio and he got two or three songs by himself. He was on to something. Then he just left. There hasn't been one time since he's been on that major status that he been back. Not once.' Needless to say, after signing with Akon's Konvict Muzik, Pain went on to release three solo albums, with a fourth titled Revolver on the horizon, without a mention of the Nappy Headz to be found.
