A 2009 PRISM award nominee, “Madison” follows a few days in the life of Michael (James DeVita), an acclaimed war correspondent returning to the city of his idealistic youth after four agonizing years in Iraq. The journey back to familiar haunts is hard, as Michael struggles to cut through the horror of war-torn Iraq with the quiet, wintry snowscape of Madison, Wisc. at Christmas and friends old and new. Michael looks up his best friend from college, Ben, and forges a unique bond with Ben's eight-year-old daughter Maddy, which leads to the journalist's cathartic emotional solace.
A "visually haunting film" says the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Steeped in the sights and sounds of Madison, the film features scenes of State Street, Lake Mendota, the Union Terrace and UW campus, as well the local landmarks the Plaza and Mickeys. "What's striking about ‘Madison’ is not just how good the city looks, but how well it's used," says The Capital Times.

The DVD also features the short film “My Life by Water: Lorine Niedecker,” which explores the life and work of this “poet of place” with images of her beloved Blackhawk Island along the waters of the Rock River. Beautifully narrated by Sarah Day, the film melds Niedecker's simple, yet stunning, words with the place she lived most of her life.
