Synopsis

This hour-long presentation examines the life and times of composer Stephen Foster while simultaneously exploring the annual music festival held in Foster’s honor near his grave in Allegheny Cemetery. The Stephen Foster Music and Heritage Festival (aka Doo Dah Days) has been presented by the Lawrenceville Historical Society since 2006.

The film uses the colorful festival, with its period costumed reenactors, musicians and guides, as a platform upon which to present the life story of Stephen Foster. The narrative unfolds amid a tapestry of historic images, documents and locations as Foster’s music punctuates key periods of his life. From his birth in Lawrenceville in 1826 to his tragic death in New York City in 1864, the film presents Foster’s biography in an engaging and informative way.

The DVD also includes 20 minutes of additional bonus material including a tour of the historic Allegheny Cemetery. The handsome packaging was created by designer Paul Schifino. The DVD includes a souvenir photograph of Stephen Foster’s grave. All proceeds from the sale of the DVD will benefit The Stephen Foster Music and Heritage Festival (Doo Dah Days) ensuring it’s continuance for years to come.
