The Treme is one of America's oldest and artistically influential neighborhoods. Jazz was born from its soil, as were many of the celebrated traditions of New Orleans.
In Tremé Life, director James Demaria brings you the story from the people who know it best. Executive producer and Jazz legend, Kermit Ruffins, weaves a history of second line culture and brass band music in the neighborhoods of the city. Funk master Dr. John adds his unique perspective about the changing culture of the area. And percussion legend Ken "Afro" Williams gives his spin on growing up in the heart of Tremé.
Ideas explored include gentrification, keeping musical traditions alive and the diaspora of New Orleans culture. Darryl "DancingMan504" Young lends local color and explains the art of second line dancing. Many more voices add personal narratives to paint a picture of Tremé life in the past and present.
Included are performances by many of New Orleans' musical legends and brass bands. Don't miss this rare insight into the soul of New Orleans.
